Finance Analyst

Location: Newark, Nottinghamshire
Salary: £27,000 – £30,000 per annum (negotiable depending on experience)
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

The Opportunity

Benjamin Edwards Recruitment is recruiting for a Finance Analyst / Cost Ledger Analyst to join a well-established and successful business based in Newark.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a background in finance who enjoys getting into the detail, analysing figures and understanding the story behind the numbers.

Working within a friendly and supportive finance team, you will play an important role in ensuring the accuracy of financial information, reviewing costs and margins, supporting month-end reporting and working closely with colleagues across the business.

We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, analytical and proactive – someone who doesn't just process numbers but enjoys investigating discrepancies, asking questions and making sure things are right.

You don't need to be a qualified accountant or have experience in every aspect of the role. The right attitude, a good understanding of finance and a willingness to learn are equally important.

Key Responsibilities

• Reviewing and analysing financial information to ensure costs, revenue and margins are accurately recorded.
• Supporting month-end reporting, including preparing journals and accruals.
• Investigating discrepancies and identifying missing or incorrectly allocated costs.
• Monitoring revenue recognition to ensure sales are recorded in the correct accounting period.
• Reviewing stock valuations, provisions and inventory-related financial information.
• Producing and reviewing financial reports to support business decisions.
• Working closely with Sales, Procurement and other departments to obtain accurate financial information.
• Supporting financial controls, reconciliations and compliance processes.
• Identifying opportunities to improve reporting accuracy and internal processes.
• Providing wider support to the finance team when required.

About You

We're keen to speak with candidates who have previous experience in a finance or accounting role and are looking for an opportunity to develop their analytical and reporting skills.

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience working within a finance or accounts department.
• A good understanding of basic accounting principles.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• An inquisitive mindset and the confidence to investigate and question figures.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across different departments.
• A proactive approach, taking ownership of tasks and following them through to completion.
• Good Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems.

Experience with SAP, month-end reporting, journals, accruals, stock accounting or cost analysis would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Applications are welcomed from candidates who are AAT qualified, studying towards an accounting qualification or qualified by experience.

You may currently be working as an Accounts Assistant, Assistant Accountant, Finance Officer, Finance Analyst or Junior Management Accountant and looking for a more varied and analytical position.
