We're working with a successful planning consultancy based in Macclesfield that is looking to appoint a Graduate Town Planner to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their planning career who is keen to gain hands-on experience across a varied portfolio of projects and develop towards a long-term career in planning consultancy.



The Role

As a Graduate Town Planner, you'll work alongside experienced planners and have the opportunity to become involved in a broad range of planning projects. You'll gain exposure to both the technical and commercial aspects of consultancy while developing your knowledge of the UK planning system.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications
  • Undertaking planning research and policy analysis
  • Supporting planning appraisals and development assessments
  • Preparing planning statements, reports and other written documentation
  • Liaising with clients, local planning authorities and other stakeholders
  • Monitoring planning applications and appeals
  • Supporting senior colleagues across a variety of residential, commercial and other development projects
  • Keeping up to date with changes to planning policy and legislation

This is a role designed to provide strong professional development, with plenty of opportunity to learn from experienced consultants and take on increasing responsibility as your career progresses.



About You

We're keen to hear from candidates who are genuinely passionate about town planning and are looking to establish themselves within the private consultancy sector.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • A degree in Town Planning, Planning & Development, Urban Planning or a related discipline
  • An interest in planning policy and the development process
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good research and analytical abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • The ability to manage your workload and meet deadlines
  • A proactive, enthusiastic and commercially aware approach
  • A genuine desire to learn and develop within a consultancy environment

Previous planning experience or relevant placement experience would be advantageous, but applications are welcomed from recent graduates who can demonstrate the right attitude and academic foundation.
