Health and Safety Advisor

Altera Recruitment Group is supporting a specialist energy business in the appointment of a Health and Safety Advisor at its site in, Lanark.

Working closely with the Head of Health and Safety, you will help develop and implement site H&S arrangements, support ISO 45001, lead inspections and audits, investigate incidents and provide practical guidance to employees, contractors and management.

Key Responsibilities of the Health and Safety Advisor

  • Support the Plant Manager and site management team with health and safety compliance, risk management and continuous improvement.
  • Develop, implement and review site H&S arrangements in line with legislation, ISO 45001 and Group requirements.
  • Lead site inspections, audits, incident investigations and corrective actions, ensuring learning is embedded across the operation.
  • Manage contractor H&S competence, inductions, permit and RAMS compliance, including providing dedicated support during major outages.
  • Produce H&S reports and performance information while chairing the site Health and Safety Committee and supporting engagement across the wider business.

Candidate Requirements

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety as a minimum.
  • Proven experience in Health and Safety management within Energy from Waste, biomass, power generation or a similar industrial environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK H&S legislation, regulations, standards and best practice.
  • Experience with ISO standards, auditing and incident investigation. Relevant auditor or incident investigation qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, with professional membership of a relevant H&S body.
