The Opportunity

Are you an experienced health, safety and environmental professional looking to take ownership of HSEQ across major construction projects? Walker & Sloan are recruiting an HSEQ Manager to support live projects of up to £75m in West London. You’ll be the go-to authority for health, safety, environmental and quality standards, working alongside project teams, the supply chain and clients to make sure projects are delivered safely without compromising on programme or quality.

Role Overview

You will oversee and enforce the company’s health and safety policies, HSE guidance and CDM compliance across your projects, making sure every site meets both its legal obligations and the business’s own high standards. Carrying out regular safety, health and environmental audits, inspections and risk assessments will be a core part of the role, along with reviewing RAMS to make sure they are practical, robust and followed on site.

Where incidents occur, you’ll lead the investigation of accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences, identify root causes and compile clear performance reports for senior management. You’ll also monitor quality control and environmental mitigation processes, supporting the business’s zero-harm goals while keeping projects moving.

Culture is just as important as compliance. You’ll deliver health and safety engagement, training and mentoring for site teams, subcontractors and operatives, helping to embed a collaborative safety culture where everyone takes ownership. You will also work directly with clients, project managers and external safety representatives, including client HSEQ teams, building strong relationships and confidence in how projects are run.

About You

You will come from a health, safety and environmental management background within the main contracting or commercial construction sector, with the credibility to lead on site and the confidence to challenge when standards slip. You may currently be an HSEQ Manager, SHEQ Manager, Health & Safety Manager or a Senior HSEQ Advisor ready to take the next step.

You’ll hold relevant safety qualifications, such as a NEBOSH Diploma or Certificate and IOSH membership, or equivalent construction safety accreditations. A thorough understanding of UK health and safety legislation, the CDM Regulations and ISO management systems is essential.

You are approachable and persuasive, able to build rapport with operatives, site managers and directors alike, and you see health and safety as something embedded in how projects are delivered rather than policed from the sidelines. You’ll also be comfortable travelling to other projects and regional offices when required.
