Polkadotfrog are delighted to be supporting a lovely, well-established, people-focused Felixstowe business in their search for a Health Safety Manager.
This is a great opportunity to take ownership of HSE across the business, working closely with operational teams to ensure safe systems of work are maintained, and employees have the right information, training and PPE to work safely.

The business operates across four sites, with the role predominantly based in Felixstowe and occasional travel to other locations for audits, new starter onboarding and other Health Safety requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Take overall responsibility for Health, Safety Environmental matters, ensuring legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Produce, maintain and review risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Carry out regular site audits, identifying improvements and ensuring actions are followed through.
  • Organise and chair regular Health, Safety Environment committee meetings.
  • Manage fire alarm testing, fire drills and associated records.
  • Maintain accurate accident and near-miss records and ensure reporting procedures are followed.
  • Oversee the inspection and maintenance of equipment.
  • Manage statutory thorough examinations under PUWER and LOLER.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inspection and maintenance records.
  • Carry out PPE assessments and arrange purchasing where required.
  • Deliver HSE information and training as part of new starter inductions, with further training as required.

The successful Health Safety Manager will have:

  • Experience in a Health Safety role, ideally within an engineering or operational environment.
  • A good understanding of Health Safety legislation and practical workplace safety.
  • Experience with risk assessments, safe systems of work and site auditing.
  • Knowledge of equipment inspection and maintenance, ideally including PUWER and LOLER.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to provide guidance and challenge where needed.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • The ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the business.
  • A full driving licence, as occasional travel between sites will be required.

NEBOSH or a similar Health Safety qualification would be advantageous, but is not essential. The company is committed to supporting the successful candidate with relevant training and professional certifications as they develop in the role.
