About the Role
Tradewind Recruitment is working in exclusive partnership with a dynamic and forward-thinking Alternative Provision (AP) in Blackpool. We are seeking a resilient, empathetic, and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their specialist team.
In this role, you will work with children and young people who have disengaged from mainstream education, many of whom have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or complex behavioral profiles. You will play a pivotal role in delivering targeted interventions, supporting classroom engagement, and occasionally covering classes to ensure continuity of learning.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver Targeted Learning: Support small groups and individuals with tailored academic and behavioral interventions.
Classroom & Cover Management: Confidently lead classes and implement lesson plans set by teaching staff when required.
SEMH & Pastoral Support: Build positive, trusting relationships with vulnerable pupils, acting as a supportive mentor to help regulate behavior and build emotional resilience.
Collaborative Working: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to track student progress and adapt strategies.
Foster an Inclusive Culture: Create a safe, engaging, and structured environment where disengaged learners feel valued and encouraged to succeed.
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications: Hold an HLTA status (or a relevant level 4+ qualification, youth work qualification, or degree with strong classroom experience).
Experience: Proven track record supporting children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or those within an Alternative Provision / SEN setting.
Resilience & Empathy: A calm, proactive, and robust approach to behaviour management, underpinned by a compassionate outlook.
Compliance: Must hold a valid Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (or be willing to apply through Tradewind) and provide checkable work references.
