About the Role
Tradewind Recruitment is proud to be working in close partnership with a progressive Alternative Provision (AP) in the Blackburn area. We are looking for a compassionate, resilient, and skilled Nurture Teacher to lead and develop a specialist nurture provision for children and young people who require intensive emotional, social, and academic support.
In this role, you will be at the heart of the school's pastoral framework, creating a safe, low-stimulus, and therapeutic learning environment. Many of the pupils you support will have experienced trauma, school exclusion, or present with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Your goal will be to help them rebuild their confidence, re-engage with education, and develop vital life and emotional regulation skills.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Nurture Provision: Design and deliver a bespoke, trauma-informed curriculum tailored to the individual developmental and emotional needs of small groups of students.
Therapeutic Approach: Embed nurture principles into daily practice, creating a predictable, secure, and welcoming atmosphere that promotes emotional well-being.
Behavior Support & Regulation: Utilize positive behavior management strategies and de-escalation techniques to support students through crisis points.
Progress Tracking: Monitor and assess academic and emotional progress using structured tracking tools, adapting interventions as needed.
Holistic Collaboration: Work closely with support staff, SENCOs, parents/carers, and external agencies (such as CAMHS and social care) to ensure wraparound support for every child.
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS) with a genuine passion for SEMH and pastoral education.
Experience: Previous experience working within an Alternative Provision, PRU (Pupil Referral Unit), SEN school, or leading a school nurture group/intervention space.
Core Qualities: High levels of patience, emotional resilience, empathy, and a strong belief in inclusive education.
Compliance: Must hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (or be willing to apply through Tradewind) and be able to provide professional references covering the last 2 years.
