Housing Environmental Health Officer

A London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Housing Environmental Health Officer to join its Private Sector Housing team.
The role will focus on improving housing standards, protecting residents and taking enforcement action where landlords and agents fail to comply with legislation. You will investigate complaints, undertake proactive inspections, support property licensing schemes and supervise up to six staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect private sector properties and identify hazards using HHSRS.
- Take statutory enforcement action, including prosecutions where required.
- Investigate housing complaints and complex cases.
- Advise landlords, tenants, agents and other stakeholders.
- Deal with property licensing, drainage, public health, pest control and fire safety issues.
- Prepare schedules of works, costings and plans.
- Lead and support proactive housing enforcement projects.
- Supervise up to six staff.
- Fully qualified Environmental Health Officer.
- Extensive experience in private sector housing enforcement.
- Strong knowledge of housing legislation, HHSRS and property licensing.
- Experience dealing with housing hazards, drainage, public health and pest control.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Previous supervisory experience desirable.
