Hr Advisor

Distinct Consultancy

HR Advisor + £33-37,000 + 22 days holiday + Birthday off + Flexible Hours + State of the art amenities + Career Growth

Our client based in Wythenshawe are looking for a HR Advisor to join them on a permanent basis. The HR Advisor will own the areas the business most needs to improve: absence and long-term sickness case management, performance and capability casework, and employee relations. Alongside that casework, you will build the proactive work that prevents it, with manager coaching, wellbeing, and better-designed people processes. You will also run monthly payroll input and checking, so accuracy and deadline discipline matter as much as advisory judgement.

HR Advisor responsibilities:

  • Manage short-term absence and long-term sickness cases end to end, including occupational health referrals, adjustments and return-to-work planning
  • Lead performance and capability casework, supporting managers through informal and formal stages
  • Advise on and manage employee relations cases — disciplinary, grievance, flexible working — escalating complex or high-risk matters to the HR Manager
  • Maintain accurate, well-documented case records and produce case data for management reporting
  • Review and update HR policy, keeping it current with employment law and fit for how the business actually operates
  • Design and deliver manager coaching and training to lift line-manager confidence in absence, performance and difficult conversations
  • Own the wellbeing agenda: initiatives, occupational health, and early intervention on emerging risks
  • Contribute to employer branding alongside the HR Coordinator, ensuring how we present externally matches the employee experience internally
  • Support with payroll monthly processing
  • Handle employee payroll queries and correct errors promptly
  • Maintain a clear audit trail for all payroll changes and approvals
  • Support recruitment at peak volume and lead on senior, complex or hard-to-fill roles, working with the HR Coordinator
  • Maintain accurate people data in the HR system for casework, absence and payroll, and produce management reporting from it.
  • Provide cover across the HR team during holiday and absence, including new starter administration, inductions and day-to-day queries. Usually, system administration and inductions sit with the HR Coordinator, but in a team of three, mutual cover is expected and reciprocal.
  • Act as deputy to the HR Manager, covering escalation and decision-making during absence and periods of leave

  • CIPD level 5 or above qualified
  • Substantial HR advisory experience, including independent management of absence, performance and ER casework
  • Current working knowledge of UK employment law and the confidence to apply it commercially
  • Proven ability to coach and influence line managers, including where the conversation is difficult
  • Comfortable working autonomously with limited supervision and sound judgement about when to escalate
  • Comfortable working in a small team where everyone covers the practical work when needed
  • Experience of payroll input and checking, with strong attention to detail and the discipline to work to a fixed monthly deadline
  • Experience of building processes from scratch in a small or newly formed HR team
  • Experience of HR systems implementation or improvement
