About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced HV Commissioning Engineer to join their growing team, delivering high-voltage commissioning activities across renewable energy and electrical infrastructure projects throughout the UK.

Working on systems ranging from 11kV to 132kV, you will be responsible for testing, commissioning, fault finding and energisation support across HV substations, ensuring all installations are delivered safely, compliantly and in accordance with customer and regulatory requirements. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead commissioning activities on HV substations, Solar PV, BESS, ICP and DNO projects. 
  • Produce and execute commissioning plans, inspection test plans (ITPs) and commissioning documentation.
  • Oversee installation works to ensure compliance with specifications and industry standards.
  • Carry out testing and validation of switchgear, transformers, LV/HV cables, battery chargers and associated plant. 
  • Perform AC, DC, HV, LV and SCADA system testing. 
  • Conduct primary and secondary injection testing and protection relay verification. 
  • Complete cable testing, insulation resistance, VLF, AC Hipot and fault-finding activities. 
  • Undertake transformer testing and commissioning activities.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during commissioning and energisation phases.
  • Produce accurate commissioning reports and maintain project documentation. 
  • Liaise with DNOs, clients, project teams and other stakeholders throughout project delivery.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior engineers where required. 

Requirements:

  • HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering. 
  • ECS or JIB Gold Card.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Full UK Driving Licence. 
  • Demonstrable experience commissioning HV substations from 11kV to 132kV.
  • Strong understanding of protection systems, electrical schematics and commissioning procedures.
  • Experience testing HV switchgear, transformers, protection relays and HV cable systems.
  • Competent using industry-standard Omicron and Megger testing equipment.
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting capabilities.

Please Note: This role involves travel to project sites across England and Wales. Flexibility to work away from home when required is essential, with all business-related travel and accommodation expenses fully covered.
