Key Account Manager – About The Role

As a Key Account Manager, you will take ownership of a portfolio of important customer relationships, working closely with clients to understand their challenges, objectives and future plans. Your role will be to build trusted, long-term partnerships while identifying opportunities that support both customer satisfaction and commercial growth.

This is a varied and influential role where you will combine account strategy, commercial insight and relationship management, working closely with internal teams to ensure customer needs are understood and delivered against. Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic account plans to achieve revenue and long-term profitability objectives.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with key customers, acting as a strategic partner and understanding their wider business goals and challenges.
  • Conduct regular account reviews, identifying opportunities for growth, improvement and increased customer satisfaction.
  • Analyse customer data and performance trends to identify opportunities, potential risks and areas for improvement.
  • Monitor market and industry developments and competitor activity to identify new opportunities and inform account strategies.
  • Lead commercial and contract negotiations with key accounts, balancing customer requirements with business objectives.
  • Manage customer challenges, disputes and escalations effectively, ensuring issues are resolved professionally and relationships remain strong.
  • Work collaboratively with sales, marketing, product development, engineering and service teams to deliver a seamless customer experience.
  • Monitor account performance against agreed objectives and KPIs, using insights to drive continuous improvement.
  • Regularly travel to customer sites, developing relationships and gaining a deeper understanding of their operational needs

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience within Key Account Management, Strategic Account Management or a senior sales position.
  • Strong commercial awareness, combined with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A strategic and analytical mindset, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends and turn insights into action.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple customer relationships and priorities effectively.
  • A natural ability to build rapport, influence stakeholders and develop long-term client partnerships.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with the confidence to manage complex customer requirements and resolve challenges.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions and bring people together to achieve a common goal.
  • A willingness to travel regularly to customer sites.
  • A positive, hands-on approach, with a strong sense of ownership and a commitment to delivering on promises.
