Are you an enthusiastic and compassionate Learning Support Assistant looking to make a positive impact in a secondary school setting? We are seeking a dedicated individual to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Taunton on a permanent, full-time basis.

This rewarding role is ideal for candidates with experience as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Classroom Support Assistant, Youth Worker, Care Worker, Behaviour Mentor, or Learning Mentor who are passionate about supporting young people to achieve their full potential.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant (LSA), you will work with students across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing tailored support both inside and outside the classroom. You will deliver a combination of 1:1 support and small group interventions, helping students overcome barriers to learning while building confidence, independence, and resilience.

Working closely with teachers, the SEND department, and pastoral teams, you will play an important role in ensuring every student can access education and thrive in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support and small group interventions for students with additional learning needs.
  • Assist students with accessing the curriculum and engaging in classroom activities.
  • Support pupils with SEND, social, emotional, and behavioural needs where required.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and personal development.
  • Adapt learning activities under the guidance of teaching staff.
  • Build strong, positive relationships and act as a trusted role model for students.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, SEND professionals, pastoral staff, and families.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, inclusion, and student welfare.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Experience working with children or young people in education, care, coaching, youth work, or a similar setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, proactive, and empathetic approach.
  • The ability to build rapport with secondary-aged students.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
