Our client is seeking an experienced Solicitor to join its in-house Legal team in Northampton, Northamptonshire on a locum basis.

The focus on the role be on corporate/commercial matters but will also encapsulate providing pragmatic legal advice across commercial property, contracts, regulatory matters and governance. The role offers hybrid working, with one or two days per week in the office, potentially less.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of commercial property matters, including leases, renewals, licences, assignments, underleases, rent deposit deeds, deeds of variation, easements and wayleaves 
• Conduct legal due diligence and title investigations 
• Advise on property transactions, acquisitions, renewals and disposals 
• Support major property projects and work closely with the Property team 
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial and non-commercial contracts 
• Advise on supplier contracts, tenders, disputes and associated legal risks 
• Advise on licensing, grant funding, sponsorship and educational placement agreements 
• Provide advice on healthcare commissioner and NHS contracts 
• Support senior management on legal and regulatory developments 
• Advise on governance and regulatory compliance across the organisation 
• Review and advise on policies, procedures and guidelines 
• Advise on professional regulatory matters, complaints and Ombudsman matters 
• Provide legal support in relation to Coroner matters, investigations and inquests 
• Advise on data protection, anti-bribery, anti-money laundering, care standards and charity regulations 
• Maintain the contract management database 
• Provide legal input to committees, working groups and major organisational projects 
• Undertake legal research and provide clear, practical advice to non-legal stakeholders 

Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor with significant post-qualification experience 
• Current practising certificate 
• Strong experience across commercial property and contract law 
• Experience advising on commercial property transactions, leases and related documentation 
• Good understanding of legal and regulatory issues affecting charities or another highly regulated organisation 
• Strong commercial judgement and a pragmatic approach to legal advice 
• Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills 
• Ability to explain complex legal issues clearly to non-legal colleagues 
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities 
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability 
• Experience managing contracts or a contract management database 
• Prior in-house experience would be advantageous
