Our client, a well-established engineering and manufacturing company based in Harlow, is seeking an experienced Manual Lathe Machinist to join their team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist with a strong mechanical background and experience operating manual lathes to produce high-quality precision components. The successful candidate will work with a range of materials, including plastics and metals, while ensuring all components meet required specifications and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Operate manual lathes to manufacture precision components.
- Set up, adjust, and operate machinery to meet production requirements.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and CAD models.
- Select appropriate tooling and machining methods for each job.
- Carry out turning, grinding, milling, and assembly tasks as required.
- Use hand tools and power tools effectively.
- Inspect completed components using measuring equipment, including verniers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Ensure all work meets quality standards and customer specifications.
- Identify and resolve machining issues where required.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures.
- Previous experience operating manual lathes within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of machining principles and processes.
- Experience working from engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Competent using measuring equipment such as calipers and micrometers.
- Experience with grinding, milling, and general workshop practices.
- Good mechanical knowledge of tooling, fixtures, and machine operation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a proactive approach.
- Experience working with both metal and plastic components.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM systems, CAD models, or SolidWorks.
- Experience in precision engineering environments.
- Permanent full-time position.
