Senior Buyer
Location: Birmingham (B19) Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary - £42k per annum
Hybrid - 2 days at home 3 days in the office
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Senior Buyer to join a fast-paced manufacturing and engineering environment. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of supplier relationships, commercial negotiations, sourcing strategies and cost-saving initiatives, whilst supporting the delivery of key procurement objectives across the business.
Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for developing category strategies, managing supplier performance, negotiating contracts and supporting operational purchasing requirements across multiple sites. This role offers significant scope to influence supplier partnerships and drive continuous improvement across the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of supplier and subcontractor spend and develop category strategies.
- Source new supply solutions and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in quality, cost and delivery performance.
- Lead commercial negotiations on pricing, contracts and service agreements.
- Negotiate and maintain supplier and subcontractor agreements.
- Manage RFQ activities, supplier benchmarking and bid analysis.
- Conduct supplier audits and monitor supplier performance.
- Deliver year-on-year cost saving and cost avoidance initiatives.
- Support new product development projects and operational purchasing requirements.
- Provide accurate reporting on spend, costs and purchasing performance.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to drive business performance.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous purchasing or procurement experience within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment.
- Experience purchasing both direct materials and indirect services.
- Proven supplier management and contract negotiation experience.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of procurement best practice.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel capability.
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to suppliers and UK sites as required.
Desirable
- MCIPS qualification or working towards MCIPS.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Advanced analytical and reporting skills.
