A specialist school in Trowbridge, Wiltshire is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Worker to become part of its supportive team. You will work with children aged 5-16 who may have Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as a range of additional learning requirements.

This position offers the chance to work within a nurturing school environment alongside experienced teachers, pastoral staff, therapists and SEN professionals.

As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will help children feel safe, valued and supported throughout their school day. You will provide emotional and practical assistance both within the classroom and during other areas of school life.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing one-to-one and small-group pastoral support.
• Helping children understand and manage their emotions.
• Encouraging positive coping techniques and emotional resilience.
• Building trusting relationships that promote confidence and self-esteem.
• Supporting children during challenging emotional or behavioural situations.
• Encouraging positive behaviour through clear, consistent and supportive guidance.
• Providing additional support during break times, lunchtimes and other less structured periods.
• Delivering appropriate pastoral activities and targeted interventions.
• Encouraging attendance, participation and engagement with learning.
• Helping children develop communication, social and independence skills.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, therapists and SEN professionals.
• Contributing to a calm, safe and inclusive school environment.
• Following safeguarding procedures and maintaining professional boundaries.

We are seeking someone who is patient, compassionate, resilient and approachable, with a genuine passion for helping children develop emotionally, socially and academically.

Previous experience in education, care, youth work or a similar support role would be beneficial, although graduates and candidates looking to start a career working with children may also be considered.

You should be able to remain calm and professional when faced with challenging situations and provide children with consistent boundaries, reassurance and encouragement.

• £85-£110 per day, depending on experience.
