Principal Structural Engineer
Nottingham
Hybrid Working | 15-Minute Walk from the Train Station
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Principal Structural Engineer to join a well-established, multi-disciplinary Consultancy as they continue to strengthen and grow their structural engineering presence in Nottingham.
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer to step into a role that combines technical delivery, client engagement and team development. Rather than joining an established local structures team, you'll play a key role in helping to build and shape the Nottingham structural engineering capability, supported by an experienced and successful wider structures business with a strong pipeline of work already in place.
The role would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership and responsibility, is comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy and is keen to play a visible role in the growth of a business. Whilst there is significant support available from the wider structures team, this position offers the opportunity to help establish a local presence, develop client relationships, and influence the future direction of the Nottingham operation.
From a technical perspective, you'll lead the delivery of building structures projects from concept through to construction, taking responsibility for programme, quality and technical output. Projects are varied and are likely to include work across commercial, residential, education, healthcare and public sector developments, providing exposure to both new-build and refurbishment schemes. You'll be involved in the design and assessment of steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry structures, undertaking design reviews, providing technical assurance and supporting construction-stage activities where required.
Alongside project delivery, you'll act as a key point of contact for clients, contractors, architects and multidisciplinary design teams, helping to maintain and develop long-term relationships. You'll contribute to fee proposals, bids and tender submissions, identify opportunities for repeat business and play an active role in supporting the continued growth of the structural engineering offering across the region.
As the team develops locally, you'll have the opportunity to mentor and support engineers, contribute to recruitment and help create a collaborative and high-performing team culture. For someone with leadership ambitions, the role offers a clear pathway towards a formal team leadership position as the Nottingham capability continues to grow.
To be considered, you'll be a Chartered Engineer (MIStructE or MICE) with significant experience delivering building structures projects from concept through to construction. You'll have strong design experience across a range of structural materials, a sound understanding of Eurocodes and British Standards, and experience leading projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. Just as importantly, you'll possess the drive and ambition to help develop a growing team and contribute to the wider success of the business.
In return, you'll join a highly respected engineering Consultancy with an excellent reputation for delivering complex and high-profile projects throughout the UK. The business offers flexible hybrid working, a comprehensive benefits package, ongoing professional development and the opportunity to take on a genuinely influential role within a growing office where your contribution will have a visible impact.
