Are you a Mechanical Engineer with strong procurement, supplier management and cost optimisation experience?

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Procurement Engineer to join a global engineering organisation in Oxfordshire on an initial 12-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on technically advanced products that have a genuine impact on healthcare worldwide, while taking responsibility for a diverse portfolio of globally sourced, highly engineered components.



The Role

As Procurement Engineer, you will combine your engineering expertise and commercial understanding to develop sourcing strategies, optimise product costs and support the introduction of new components and suppliers.

You will work closely with Procurement, R&D, Engineering, Quality and Supply Chain teams, as well as international suppliers and colleagues, to ensure components are technically suitable, competitively priced and manufactured to the required standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing long-term sourcing strategies.
  • Performing cost analysis, target costing, benchmarking and should-cost analysis.
  • Identifying and delivering cost and value optimisation opportunities.
  • Supporting product design with cost estimates and manufacturing recommendations.
  • Providing technical and commercial input into supplier negotiations.
  • Working with suppliers on Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design to Cost initiatives.
  • Evaluating and developing new suppliers.
  • Analysing manufacturing processes and product cost drivers.
  • Supporting procurement transformation and digitalisation initiatives.
  • Building strong relationships with international suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Travelling internationally as required, potentially up to 20% of the role.


What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced engineering or procurement professional with:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Several years' experience in engineering, procurement engineering, strategic procurement or a similar technical/commercial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical components.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal fabrication, forming, casting, composites or mechanical assemblies.
  • Proven experience in cost structure analysis, cost-driver analysis, target costing and product cost optimisation.
  • Strong supplier relationship management and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and presentation abilities.
  • A collaborative approach and the confidence to influence both suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • A willingness to work within an international environment and undertake overseas travel.
