The company

Our client, A & G Metal Treatments Ltd, provides specialist surface treatments to the UK aerospace and defence industries. Their services include NDT, anodising, passivation, chemical conversion coatings and specialist aerospace painting. They hold Nadcap accreditation for Chemical Processing and NDT.

Following significant growth over the past 12 months, our client is looking for a hands-on Production Manager to lead their day-to-day production operation.

The role

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will manage the shop-floor team, keep work moving through production and ensure customer requirements are met while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the production team and coordinate daily shop-floor activity.
• Plan workloads, manage work in progress and monitor capacity to meet customer delivery dates, including urgent requirements.
• Run daily production meetings and communicate priorities across the team.
• Identify bottlenecks, delays and quality issues early, then take corrective action.
• Work closely with Inspection, Quality, Technical and Commercial teams.
• Maintain standards of health and safety, housekeeping and compliance with customer specifications and internal procedures.
• Monitor productivity, labour use, overtime, rejects and rework.
• Develop supervisors and production employees, support training and drive continuous improvement.
• Report production performance and issues to the Managing Director.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing production or operations in an engineering, manufacturing or similarly controlled environment.
• Strong leadership, planning and problem-solving skills.
• Experience managing production schedules, work in progress and changing priorities.
• The ability to maintain accountability and quality standards across a busy team.

Experience in aerospace, defence, precision engineering, metal finishing or surface treatments would be particularly useful. Knowledge of AS9100, Nadcap or aerospace manufacturing requirements would be an advantage, but is not essential.
