Location: Apsley, Hemel Hempstead

Type: Permanent, Full-time

Hours: Mon-Fri, 7.30 – 5.30pm

Salary: Up to £75k pending candidate experience (+ car allowance)

Project Partners are now recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to come and join a fantastic and well-established team, working within the Civil Engineering and Water Utilities Construction sector based in and around Apsley.

This role is an all-rounder hands on role that involves managing multiple civil engineering projects on Water/ Wastewater sites, from initial inception to final completion. The Project Manager will provide engineering and management support between the principal designer and the site team. They will be required to manage developing scopes of works, developing site documents i.e., RAMS, QMP, EMP, CPP to progress the project to Construction Stage.

Job responsibilities:

  • Lead end to end delivery of multiple civil engineering projects, ensuring safe, timely and commercially successful execution.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the client, managing relationships and ensuring alignment on project risk and delivery.
  • Develop, manage and monitor project programmes proactively identifying and mitigating risks to delivery timelines.
  • Oversee site agents and operational teams, ensuring effective coordination, accountability and high performance across multiple live sites.
  • Lead health, safety and compliance across all sites, ensuring adherence to CDM regulations, company procedures and industry best practices.
  • Monitor and control projects costs through structured reporting including CVR reviews, cost tracker and financial performance analysis.
  • Manage subcontractor and suppliers ensuring performance, quality, programme adherence and commercial alignment.
  • Identify and manage technical and operational risks, particularly when working around critical assets and complex ground conditions.
  • Provide clear reporting and performance updates to senior leadership, including progress, risks, financial position and mitigation strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project processes, implementing systems and controls to improve efficiency, reduce errors and enhance delivery performance

Experience required:

  • Proven experience as a site manager/project manager within civil engineering, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience delivering water and wastewater infrastructure projects (other sectors will be considered).
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and operational teams.
  • Proven track record of managing project costs to support accurate commercial performance reporting.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working in complex construction environments involving existing live services and high-risk assets.
  • Experience liaising directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience delivering projects safely, on programme and within budget.

Skills required:

  • Strong knowledge of civil engineer construction methods, particularly within water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Ability to develop, manage and monitor detailed construction programmes.
  • Strong commercial and financial management skills, including cost control, forecasting and margin management.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams across multiple sites.
  • Excellent client relationship management and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and construction health and safety requirements. Proficiency in project reporting systems (Excel-based trackers, etc).
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and implement structured processes to improve project delivery

Essential Qualifications required:

  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
  • CSCS Card
  • Full UK Driving License
  • Temporary works coordinator (TWC)
