About the Role

We are a well-established, high-technology electronic manufacturing company based in Maldon, specialising in electronic assembly services for a diverse range of customers.

We are looking for an organised and proactive Purchasing/Materials Planner to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in electronic component purchasing or materials planning within an electronics manufacturing environment who enjoys working in a busy, customer-focused role.

Working closely with customers, suppliers and our production team, you will play a key role in ensuring materials are sourced efficiently, production schedules are supported, and customer deliveries are achieved on time.



Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer Bills of Materials (BoMs) and identify suitable components from existing stock.
  • Source non-stocked electronic components, obtaining the most competitive pricing and delivery schedules to meet customer requirements.
  • Work with customers to resolve component availability issues and recommend suitable alternatives where possible.
  • Prepare accurate material costings and quotations for the Account Management team.
  • Purchase components in line with customer requirements while achieving quoted or improved costs.
  • Create and maintain internal part numbers, including manufacturer information, MSL levels, part markings and datasheets.
  • Manage component shortages that arise during production.
  • Liaise with Production and Inspection teams regarding component, PCB, metalwork and quality issues.
  • Organise supplier returns, replacements and corrective actions for damaged or incorrect materials.
  • Progress supplier orders to ensure customer delivery commitments are met.
  • Release materials for production once approved for kitting.
  • Resolve supplier invoice queries with the Accounts department.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain supplier ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification records.
  • Assist with setting up new suppliers.
  • Purchase production consumables including solder paste, packaging materials and other operational supplies.


About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience purchasing electronic components within an electronics manufacturing environment (EMS preferred).
  • Good knowledge of electronic components and the supply chain.
  • Experience working with distributors such as Arrow, Avnet, DigiKey, Mouser or similar.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with customers and suppliers.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and database systems.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
