Job Description

As the Registered Manager of the service, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of a high-quality residential service that meets the needs of children and young people with complex needs, trauma, and emotional and behavioural challenges. You will ensure full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and Ofsted expectations.

You will create a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where children are supported to thrive, achieve, and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

* Ensure the home provides a safe, caring, and nurturing environment in line with the home’s Statement of Purpose.

* Lead and manage the staff team effectively, promoting a positive, supportive, and high-performance culture.

* Ensure the delivery of personalised, child-centred care plans in collaboration with multi-agency partners.

* Maintain full compliance with Ofsted regulations and oversee the home’s readiness for inspections.

* Manage safeguarding, incident reporting, and effective risk management in line with organisational policies.

* Oversee recruitment, training, supervision, and appraisal of staff, ensuring development and retention.

* Maintain robust recording, monitoring, and reporting systems, including internal audits and regulatory returns.

* Lead on placement stability, positive outcomes, and transitions for young people.

* Work closely with families, local authorities, and external professionals to support each young person’s journey.

* Control budgets responsibly and ensure the home remains financially sustainable.

* Support Other Homes Within the Region

* Actively participate in regional forums and best practice groups.

* Offer mentorship, guidance, and oversight to new or developing Registered Managers or Deputy Managers.

* Provide interim support to other homes as required during transition or staffing gaps.

* Contribute to the regional improvement and development plan, sharing learning and driving consistency across homes.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a children’s residential setting within the last 5 years.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or management role in a children’s home.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – Essential.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and child protection procedures.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in managing budgets, rota planning, and quality assurance.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and partnership working skills.
  • Successful track record of positive Ofsted inspection outcomes – desirable.

Hours: Full-Time – 37.5 hours per week (flexible to meet the needs of the service)
