School Finance Manager in Berkshire

Sellick Partnership are working with a leading Multi Academy Trust who are seeking an experienced School Finance Manager to join one of their secondary schools in Berkshire on a permanent, full-time basis.

This is a key finance position within the school, working closely with the Head Teacher and Director of Finance, while managing a small finance function and overseeing the day-to-day financial management of the school. The successful candidate will have previous experience working within a secondary school, school environment or Multi Academy Trust, alongside extensive experience using FMS finance software.

The responsibilities of the School Finance Manager will be:

  • Managing the day-to-day financial operations of the secondary school
  • Managing and supporting a small finance team of one
  • Preparing and monitoring budgets, forecasts and financial reports
  • Supporting the Head Teacher and senior leadership team with financial information and advice
  • Reporting to the Head Teacher and Director of Finance
  • Monitoring income and expenditure against budgets and investigating variances
  • Overseeing purchase orders, invoicing, payments and income processes
  • Supporting month-end and year-end financial processes
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring appropriate financial controls are in place
  • Supporting audit requirements and providing financial information as required
  • Ensuring compliance with the financial policies and procedures of the Multi Academy Trust
  • Working closely with the central finance team and school leadership to support effective financial management

The ideal candidate for the School Finance Manager role will have:

  • Extensive experience working within a secondary school, school environment or Multi Academy Trust
  • Extensive hands-on experience using FMS finance software - this is an essential requirement
  • Previous experience managing or supervising a finance team
  • Strong knowledge of school finance, budgeting and financial reporting
  • Experience working closely with senior stakeholders, ideally including Head Teachers and/or Directors of Finance
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of the school's financial operations
  • A relevant finance qualification or strong equivalent experience would be desirable
