Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for a compassionate and resilient SEMH Student Support Officer to join a specialist school in the Corby area.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and helping students overcome the barriers that may be affecting their education, behaviour and emotional wellbeing.

The successful candidate will work closely with students who may require additional pastoral and emotional support, providing a consistent and trusted presence throughout the school day.



The Role

As an SEMH Student Support Officer, you will play an important role in supporting students both personally and educationally.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to students

  • Building positive and trusting relationships with young people

  • Supporting students with a range of SEMH and additional needs

  • Helping students manage their emotions and develop positive coping strategies

  • Supporting young people who may display challenging behaviour

  • Helping students re-engage with learning following difficult situations

  • Providing pastoral and wellbeing support throughout the school day

  • Supporting students with confidence, resilience and self-esteem

  • Encouraging positive behaviour, attendance and engagement

  • Supporting students during periods of heightened emotion or anxiety

  • Delivering or assisting with targeted interventions and mentoring

  • Maintaining clear and consistent professional boundaries

  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, SEN staff and other professionals

  • Monitoring student wellbeing and communicating relevant information to the wider team



Who Are We Looking For?

Previous experience supporting individuals with SEMH, SEN, mental health or behavioural needs would be highly beneficial.

Your experience could come from:

  • SEMH or specialist education

  • Pastoral support

  • Behaviour mentoring

  • Mental health support

  • Youth work

  • Teaching assistance

  • SEN/SEND support

  • Residential childcare

  • Social care

  • Family support

  • Mentoring

  • Counselling or psychology

School-based experience would be beneficial, but we would also welcome applications from candidates with strong transferable experience supporting vulnerable children, young people or adults.

  • Passionate about young people's mental health and wellbeing

  • Resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations

  • Confident supporting behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Able to establish clear and consistent boundaries

  • A strong communicator and active listener

  • Confident building positive relationships with young people

  • Understanding of the different barriers students with SEMH needs may face

  • Reliable and consistent in their approach

  • Committed to helping young people achieve positive outcomes
