SEN Teacher Year 8

Smile Education Recruitment

SEN Teacher – Year 8

Smile Education are currently recruiting for an experienced SEN Teacher to join a specialist school in the Rowley Regis area.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity working with a Year 8 cohort of pupils with special educational needs. The school is looking for a passionate and resilient teacher who can provide a structured, engaging and supportive learning environment tailored to the individual needs of the pupils.

This would be an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN teacher who is confident adapting the curriculum, managing behaviour positively and building strong relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning. The school provides a specialist learning environment for pupils who require additional support to access education.

As an SEN teacher, you will work alongside an experienced team of teaching and support staff, adapting your approach to ensure pupils remain engaged and able to access their learning. You will primarily be working with Year 8 pupils with a range of additional learning needs.

The cohort may include pupils with:

  • Speech, language and communication needs
  • Social, emotional and behavioural needs
  • Specific learning difficulties
  • Difficulties with concentration and organisation
  • Low confidence or previous negative experiences of education
  • Pupils requiring significant differentiation and additional classroom support
The pupils will have different abilities, strengths and barriers to learning, so the successful teacher will need to be flexible and confident in adapting lessons accordingly. Some pupils may require additional support with emotional regulation, maintaining focus, following routines, managing social situations and developing independence. A calm, consistent and relationship-based approach will be particularly important.

As the Year 8 SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that are appropriately differentiated to meet the needs of the pupils.

You will:
  • Teach a Year 8 cohort with SEN
  • Plan and deliver engaging and accessible lessons
  • Differentiate work and adapt resources
  • Set clear expectations and maintain positive behaviour
  • Build strong and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Support pupils' academic and personal development
  • Encourage confidence, independence and engagement
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress
  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants and the wider SEN team
  • Contribute to individual learning plans and targets
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and parents/carers
  • Use creative approaches to overcome barriers to learning
  • Maintain a safe, structured and inclusive classroom
  • Follow safeguarding and school policies
The school is looking for an experienced, confident and nurturing teacher who understands how to support pupils with additional needs while maintaining high expectations.

You will ideally have:
  • QTS – essential
  • Experience teaching within a secondary setting
  • Previous SEN/SEND teaching experience
  • Experience working with pupils who have additional or complex needs
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Excellent differentiation skills
