An established civil and structural engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Bridge Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of bridge and infrastructure projects.

This opportunity offers technically challenging work, responsibility for developing engineering solutions and the chance to contribute your expertise within a specialist design team.

The role

You will take responsibility for bridge design and assessment work, developing practical solutions from initial concept through to detailed design. You will work closely with colleagues, clients and contractors to ensure designs are technically robust, buildable and delivered to programme.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking the structural analysis and detailed design of bridges and associated structures.

• Developing designs for reinforced concrete, prestressed and precast concrete bridges, including integral bridge solutions.

• Preparing and reviewing design calculations, technical reports, specifications and drawings.

• Assessing existing structures and developing solutions for strengthening or modification where required.

• Ensuring designs comply with relevant Eurocodes, UK National Annexes and applicable client standards.

• Considering construction methods, sequencing and temporary conditions within the design.

• Coordinating with CAD technicians and other engineers to produce accurate design information.

• Liaising with clients and contractors to resolve technical queries and design interfaces.

• Managing design deliverables, deadlines and technical quality.

• Supporting design reviews and checking the work of other engineers.

• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior colleagues.

About you

You will bring a strong background in bridge engineering and structural design, with demonstrable experience delivering detailed designs for UK infrastructure projects.

We are interested in established Senior Bridge Design Engineers and experienced Bridge Engineers ready to take on greater technical responsibility.

You should demonstrate:

• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or an equivalent relevant qualification.

• Substantial experience in bridge design within a consultancy or specialist engineering environment.

• Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and precast construction.

• Experience designing integral concrete bridges.

• A sound understanding of structural behaviour, loading and analysis.

• Working knowledge of Eurocodes, UK National Annexes and relevant bridge design standards.

• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software.

• The ability to produce clear calculations, reports and technical information.

• A practical approach to buildability and resolving engineering challenges.

• Confident communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Chartered status with ICE or IStructE, or progress towards chartership, would be advantageous.
