About the Opportunity

A leading engineering and technology organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the delivery of complex engineering projects from concept through to manufacture, installation and client acceptance.

This is a senior-level position offering responsibility for technical leadership, project delivery, team development, and innovation. The successful candidate will lead engineering teams across multiple projects while ensuring designs are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineering teams across multiple projects simultaneously.
• Take ownership of technical, schedule and budget performance within assigned projects.
• Drive engineering excellence, ensuring quality, safety and continuous improvement processes are maintained.
• Apply advanced mechanical engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges.
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends and market opportunities.
• Develop innovative engineering solutions, products and design methodologies.
• Oversee the full design lifecycle from concept development through detailed design, design reviews, release of manufacturing documentation and production support.
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs and technical documentation.
• Support bid and proposal activities, including concept generation, cost estimation and technical submissions.
• Conduct design risk assessments and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
• Collaborate with project management, manufacturing, installation and commissioning teams.
• Support client meetings, site surveys and technical presentations where required.
• Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and project sign-off activities.
• Mentor, support and develop junior engineers and design team members.
• Participate in recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews and team development activities.
• Foster a positive, high-performance engineering culture focused on collaboration and professional growth.

Skills & Experience

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Significant experience in mechanical design and project delivery within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing engineering teams.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software (Inventor, AutoCAD or similar packages advantageous).
• Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation.
• Knowledge of design for manufacture, assembly and installation considerations.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
