Senior/Principal Transport Planning Consultant

Location: Surrey

Salary: £50,000/£60,000

Are you an experienced Transport Planner looking to take the next step in your career? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior or Principal Transport Planning Consultant to join a growing multidisciplinary consultancy with an expanding Transport Planning team based in Godalming.

This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading technical role, managing a diverse portfolio of development planning projects across the residential, commercial, education, healthcare, industrial and mixed-use sectors throughout the UK. You'll join a collaborative team where you'll have the opportunity to mentor junior colleagues, work closely with clients and contribute to the continued growth of the business.

The Role

As a Senior / Principal Transport Planning Consultant, you'll lead projects from initial feasibility through to planning approval, providing high-quality technical advice and delivering transport planning solutions for a wide range of developments.

Working alongside planners, engineers and other multidisciplinary professionals, you'll play a key role in project delivery while helping to maintain the consultancy's excellent technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a varied portfolio of development planning projects across the UK.
  • Prepare, review and oversee Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Technical Notes and Access Appraisals.
  • Undertake and review junction capacity assessments using Junctions 11 (PICADY and ARCADY) and LinSig.
  • Provide technical advice to clients throughout the planning process.
  • Liaise with Local Planning Authorities, Highway Authorities, statutory consultees and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Mentor and support Graduate and Consultant-level Transport Planners.
  • Carry out technical reviews and ensure consistently high-quality project delivery.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of national and local transport planning policy and guidance.
  • Contribute to fee proposals, project scoping and business development activities.

About You

To be considered, you'll ideally have:

  • A minimum of five years' experience within a UK development planning transport consultancy.
  • A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or a related discipline.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK transport planning policy, standards and guidance.
  • Experience preparing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans.
  • Proficiency with Junctions 11 (PICADY and ARCADY) and LinSig.
  • Excellent report writing, analytical and communication skills.
  • Strong project management abilities with experience managing multiple projects.
  • Confidence when liaising with clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary teams.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Be working towards professional Chartership with a recognised institution, ideally through the CIHT CTPP route.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience using GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Familiarity with TRICS and TEMPro.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members and reviewing technical reports.
  • Previous involvement in business development and client relationship management.
