Hybrid Working - 1 to 2 days per week in the office, remainder remote

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join a busy Transportation team delivering a variety of traffic engineering projects across a London Borough.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in highways and traffic engineering who can independently manage projects, supervise junior staff, and ensure schemes are delivered safely, efficiently and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

✅ Produce financial estimates, project statistics and payment claims

✅ Monitor project progress, expenditure and programme delivery

✅ Prepare contract documentation including specifications, Bills of Quantities and tender documents

✅ Design and deliver traffic engineering schemes and prepare technical drawings

✅ Interpret surveys, reports and consultation responses

✅ Assess contractor quotations and provide technical recommendations

✅ Supervise contractors, undertake site inspections and monitor quality standards

✅ Prepare technical reports and present engineering advice to internal and external stakeholders

✅ Ensure projects comply with statutory requirements, budgets and quality standards

✅ Support and mentor junior engineers where required

Essential Requirements

✔ Previous experience working within a Local Authority, Council or Housing Association (ESSENTIAL)

✔ Proven experience delivering traffic engineering or highways projects

✔ Experience preparing technical specifications, drawings and contract documentation

✔ Strong understanding of highways legislation, engineering standards and contract management

✔ Experience managing project budgets, programmes and contractor performance

✔ Excellent report writing and stakeholder engagement skills

✔ Ability to work independently whilst managing multiple projects
