Setting Out Engineer - Gatwick

Are you a Setting Out Engineer with experience delivering major civil engineering or infrastructure projects and looking for your next contract opportunity?

Red Sky Personnel are recruiting for a Setting Out Engineer to join a leading civil engineering contractor delivering a major airside infrastructure project at Gatwick Airport.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a live operational airport environment, supporting the delivery of civil engineering works including reinforced concrete, drainage, pavements and associated infrastructure. The role will involve supporting daily concrete pours of up to 100m³, working alongside an experienced site team to ensure works are delivered safely, accurately and on programme.

We are looking for a proactive engineer with a strong technical background who can work independently, coordinate engineering activities on site and provide support to the wider delivery team.

As a Setting Out Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Setting out for concrete and civil engineering works, including screed rails, road formers and shuttering

• Producing accurate as-built surveys and maintaining engineering records

• Carrying out quality assurance inspections and site checks

• Raising, managing and closing out RFIs

• Supporting the planning and delivery of daily concrete pours

• Ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately and in accordance with programme

• Working closely with site management, subcontractors and the wider engineering team

• Previous experience working as a Setting Out Engineer, Site Engineer or similar within civil engineering or infrastructure projects

• Strong setting out experience using Leica, Trimble, Topcon or similar survey equipment

• Experience delivering reinforced concrete, highways, drainage, utilities, pavements or heavy civils packages

• Experience producing as-built surveys, engineering records and quality documentation

• Understanding of QA processes, inspections and engineering documentation

• Experience raising and managing RFIs

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and resolve technical issues on site

• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering (preferred)

• Valid CSCS Card

• Strong communication and organisational skills

• Contract opportunity until October 2026, with the potential for extension

Please note: Due to the nature of the project, successful candidates will be required to obtain airside security clearance. This includes eligibility for a DBS check, the ability to provide a continuous five-year employment history (or suitable references for any employment gaps), and meeting airport security requirements.
