The Opportunity

Our client is an established shopfitting and interior fit-out contractor seeking an experienced Project Manager with strong estimating and quantity surveying capabilities. This is a hands-on position with responsibility for projects from initial enquiry, pricing and pre-construction through to procurement, site delivery, commercial management, completion and final account.

The role is specifically suited to someone with experience delivering complete, multi-trade shopfitting or fast-track interior fit-out projects. You will need to manage clients, subcontractors, budgets and programmes while maintaining control of both project delivery and commercial performance.

You will work from the Croydon office when not visiting project sites. Regular travel across London and the South East is required, with travel to other UK locations when necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage shopfitting and interior fit-out projects from initial pricing through to completion and handover
  • Review architectural drawings, construction information and project specifications
  • Produce estimates, take-offs, cost plans, quotations and procurement schedules
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, valuations, payment applications and commercial reports
  • Identify, price and agree project variations
  • Procure and manage subcontractors, suppliers, labour and materials
  • Develop and maintain project programmes
  • Monitor project costs, progress, quality and commercial performance
  • Attend site meetings and maintain regular communication with clients, subcontractors and project teams
  • Resolve design, programme, procurement and commercial issues
  • Ensure projects meet relevant health and safety, quality and client requirements
  • Manage final accounts and project close-out
  • Maintain control of several live projects and competing deadlines
Essential Experience
  • Direct experience delivering shopfitting, retail, hospitality or fast-track commercial interior fit-out projects
  • Responsibility for complete, multi-trade projects from pricing or pre-construction through to handover
  • Experience producing estimates, take-offs and project costings
  • Practical knowledge of valuations, variations, payment applications, cost control and final accounts
  • Experience procuring and managing multi-trade subcontractors and suppliers
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications and construction information
  • Experience managing project budgets, programmes, procurement and site delivery
  • Strong client communication and stakeholder-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel regularly for site visits and project delivery
Applicants whose experience is limited to residential construction, social housing or a single specialist subcontract package will need to demonstrate additional responsibility for complete, multi-trade fit-out projects.

A qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or Project Management would be beneficial, although relevant experience will also be considered.

The Projects

Projects include fit-out and refurbishment schemes across:
  • Retail
  • Restaurants and hospitality
  • Commercial interiors
  • Office fit-out and refurbishment
  • Leisure and other customer-facing premises
The work can involve short programmes, operational or live environments and multiple subcontract packages. The successful candidate must therefore be comfortable making timely decisions while maintaining control of programme, quality and cost.

  • Salary up to £60,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • Company vehicle
  • Pension contribution
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Projects across London, the South East and wider UK
