About The Role

We're looking for an experienced Site Manager to lead the safe, quality and on-time delivery of roofing and construction projects across London. This is a role of full ownership. You will own the outcome on every project you run.

Safety, quality workmanship, integrity and client relationships aren't abstract values in this role. They are the job. Every project, every site, every interaction with a client, subcontractor or member of your team.

Subcontractor management is core to what you'll do. You will hold subcontractors to programme, specification and Health & Safety standard without exception — and manage commercial risk at site level with the same rigour, ensuring all variations are identified and recorded promptly.

You will also develop the people around you. Trainee and Assistant Site Managers will look to you for leadership, guidance and the standard they should be working toward.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Health, Safety and Wellbeing

– Own the safety culture on site. Set the standard through visible, consistent behaviour

– Ensure full compliance with RAMS, statutory requirements and company H&S procedures

– Conduct weekly site inspections, record findings and drive corrective actions

– Discharge Principal Contractor duties under CDM Regulations; maintain awareness of Building Safety Act obligations

– Investigate accidents, incidents and near-misses independently, identify root causes and implement preventive measures

– Enforce Working at Height Regulations and all site-specific controls without compromise

– Hold all subcontractors to the same H&S standard as directly employed staff

– Create an environment where people raise concerns without hesitation and team wellbeing is actively monitored

Technical Delivery and Quality

– Own accountability for the quality of work leaving site

– Manage all associated works: rooflights, smoke vents, solar PV, green and blue roofs, metalwork, cappings and scaffolding interfaces

– Identify defects, diagnose causes and implement remedial solutions independently

– Ensure all works are delivered strictly within drawings, specification and scope

– Manage project completion and handover to zero outstanding defects

– Maintain accurate use of SafetyCulture, iAuditor, Procore and SharePoint across the site team

Subcontractor Management

– Hold all subcontractors to programme commitments. Identify slippage early and demand recovery plans

– Reject substandard work. Do not sign off installations that do not meet specification

– Enforce H&S requirements on all subcontractors without exception

– Identify and record all variations and scope changes promptly and communicate to the Contracts Manager before, not after

– Maintain firm, fair and professional working relationships with all subcontractors

Commercial Awareness

– Identify cost risks including delay, defects, rework and scope change — communicate them early to the Contracts Manager

– Ensure accurate and timely recording of labour, plant and material usage

– Attend job costing and project review meetings, contribute accurate site data and meaningful commercial input

Leadership and Culture

– Set the professional standard on site. The quality of the environment, conduct of the team and professionalism of operations reflect directly on you

– Make sound decisions independently. Escalate when required, without delay

– Actively develop Trainee and Assistant Site Managers through structured feedback and practical coaching

– Manage on-site client relationships with professionalism and confidence

– Communicate clearly and proactively with all stakeholders without prompting

Candidate Specification

– SMSTS certification, confirmed and current

– Proven experience managing roofing, cladding or associated construction projects independently

– Demonstrable ability to manage subcontractors to programme, quality and H&S standard

– Sound working knowledge of CDM Regulations and site management obligations

– Experience identifying and recording variations on live projects

– Proficiency in digital site management systems including SafetyCulture or equivalent

– Strong written and verbal communication skills across clients, subcontractors and internal teams

– Full UK driving licence

Desirable

– NVQ Level 3 or above in Roofing, Construction Management or a related discipline

– First Aid at Work certification

– Experience working across public sector, defence, education or healthcare environments

– Familiarity with framework contract environments and associated reporting requirements

– ILM Level 3 or equivalent leadership qualification
