Starfyn Education is proud to be working in partnership with an Outstanding Specialist College in Hillingdon to recruit a Band 6 or Band 7 Speech & Language Therapist to join their multidisciplinary team on a maternity cover contract.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a specialist further education setting, supporting young people and adults with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). You'll play a vital role in empowering learners to develop their communication, independence, and life skills through creative, person-centred therapy.
The Role As a Speech & Language Therapist, you will:
- Deliver high-quality Speech & Language Therapy services at both universal and individual levels.
- Assess and manage communication, eating and drinking needs using a range of formal and informal assessment tools.
- Work independently to manage your own clinical caseload.
- Support learners with complex communication needs, including the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
- Collaborate with teaching staff to embed communication strategies into the curriculum.
- Deliver training, coaching and guidance to education staff to maximise student outcomes.
- Work closely with families and external professionals to ensure smooth transitions into and out of the college.
- Promote person-centred, neurodiversity-affirming practice that encourages independence, inclusion and positive outcomes for every learner.
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Moderate, Severe and Profound Learning Disabilities
- Profound & Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)
- Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Complex communication needs requiring AAC
- Eating and drinking (dysphagia) needs
- Physical disabilities and associated medical needs
- A Degree in Speech & Language Therapy (or equivalent).
- Current HCPC Registration.
- Eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Experience supporting young people or adults with complex learning disabilities and autism.
- Strong knowledge of communication assessment, AAC, and eating and drinking (dysphagia) management.
- Previous experience working within an educational or specialist SEND setting (desirable).
- Excellent communication, teamwork and organisational skills.
