Ready to take on a role where your rolling stock expertise directly improves fleet performance, reduces repeat failures and gives you the flexibility to work in a way that suits you?
This is a great opportunity for an experienced rolling stock engineer who wants to step away from purely reactive work and move into a role focused on investigation, reliability improvement and technical influence across a major UK passenger fleet.
Why this role? You’ll get the chance to work on meaningful technical challenges, influence engineering decisions, develop your reliability expertise and be part of a supportive team offering flexible working, strong benefits and long-term career potential.
The Role
You’ll be the person teams turn to when complex fleet issues need understanding, resolving and preventing from happening again. Working closely with engineering, maintenance and operations colleagues, you’ll use data, technical insight and practical problem-solving to improve reliability across the fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead investigations into recurring technical issues and help prevent repeat failures.
- Use fleet data to spot trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Turn technical findings into practical engineering recommendations.
- Support depot, production and maintenance teams with complex in-service issues.
- Contribute to reliability, availability and fleet performance improvement plans.
- Produce clear technical reports that support better engineering decisions.
About You
If you enjoy getting under the skin of technical problems, spotting patterns in data and seeing your recommendations make a visible difference to fleet performance, this could be a strong next move.
You'll ideally have:
- Previous Rolling Stock experience within technical support, fleet engineering, reliability, maintainability or reactive maintenance.
- Excellent fault-finding and root cause investigation skills.
- Experience analysing technical data, maintenance records and engineering information.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and develop improvement plans.
- Good knowledge of reliability engineering and continuous improvement principles.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple engineering and operational teams.
- Experience producing technical reports and presenting engineering findings would be advantageous.
The Company
You’ll join a well-established UK rail business with a significant rolling stock fleet, a collaborative engineering culture and the scale to offer variety, stability and progression. Alongside a competitive salary, the role offers flexible and hybrid working options, wellbeing support, work-based perks and an inclusive working environment.
