Our client, a leading provider of facilities services in the UK, is seeking a Technical Services Manager to deliver a world-class, consistent building maintenance service across a complex R&D laboratories environment.
Job Overview
This role is focused on technical engineering leadership within a specialist research facility, ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and resilience of both critical and non-critical systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining high standards across all engineering activities while supporting the long-term reliability of infrastructure.
The position also involves driving a shift from a reactive, contractor-led approach to a structured and technically governed delivery model. Working closely with stakeholders and supply chain partners, the Technical Services Manager will lead on operational improvements, risk management, and performance optimisation across the site.
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced engineer with a strong Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) background who can lead a small team, enhance the site’s engineering delivery model, and act as the key interface between stakeholders, contractors, and specialist partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead site engineering operations, ensuring effective delivery of maintenance across critical infrastructure
- Provide technical oversight of systems including ozone generation, electrical supplies, control systems, and process infrastructure
- Act as the key interface between client stakeholders and specialist contractors
- Drive site resilience through contingency planning, FMEA, and structured outage strategies
- Manage contractors and supply chain, ensuring clear scope, competency, and coordinated planning
- Lead incident response and root cause analysis for technical failures
- Develop and implement maintenance and asset strategies, including PPM and lifecycle planning
- Provide clear technical reporting on system performance, risks, and planned activities
Professional and Personal Competencies / Qualifications
- Strong Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) qualifications, ideally minimum HNC level or equivalent
- Proven hands-on technical services experience within a building services or estates environment
- Experience with a focus on mechanical systems management in regulated settings
- Recognised apprenticeship with relevant qualifications (HNC/HND, City & Guilds, or NVQ Level 3 or above)
- Demonstrable experience leading engineering teams and improving operational delivery models
- Strong fault diagnosis capability and experience managing engineering modifications and temporary works
- Willingness to be appointed as an Authorised Person (AP)
- Full UK driving licence with flexibility for regional travel (company car or allowance provided)
