A well-established manufacturing business is looking for an experienced Toolmaker to join its engineering team.

This is a varied, hands-on position involving the manufacture, maintenance and improvement of tooling used within a busy production environment. The role will suit someone who enjoys practical engineering, problem-solving and working closely with production and engineering colleagues.

The Role

  • Manufacture, modify, repair and maintain press tooling, forming tools, jigs and fixtures.
  • Work from engineering drawings and specifications to produce accurate tooling.
  • Carry out precision fitting, assembly and bench work.
  • Identify and resolve tooling and production issues.
  • Support tooling trials and the introduction of new or modified tooling.
  • Work closely with production, engineering and machining teams to improve tooling performance.
  • Make modifications and improvements to existing tooling to improve reliability, quality and production efficiency.
  • Ensure tooling is maintained to a high standard and is suitable for the production environment.
  • Contribute practical engineering knowledge to tooling and manufacturing improvements.

About You

We're looking for a skilled, hands-on Toolmaker with a background in precision engineering or a similar manufacturing environment.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Relevant toolmaking or engineering apprenticeship/qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong experience in toolmaking and precision fitting.
  • Experience working with press tools, forming tools, jigs or fixtures.
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances and fits.
  • Manual machining experience.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work accurately with minimal supervision.
  • A practical understanding of manufacturing processes and how tooling performs in a production environment.

Experience with CNC machining or other conventional machine shop equipment would be advantageous.

You don't need to have experience with every type of tooling. We're particularly interested in someone with strong core toolmaking skills, sound engineering judgement and a practical approach to solving problems.
