Vehicle Technician – Job Specification

Job Purpose

To carry out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repair work to a high standard, ensuring vehicles are safe, reliable and returned to customers on time and to manufacturer and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on cars and/or light commercial vehicles

  • Diagnose vehicle faults using manufacturer and diagnostic equipment

  • Complete mechanical and electrical repairs efficiently and accurately

  • Carry out MOT preparation work (and MOT testing if qualified)

  • Ensure all work is completed in line with manufacturer standards and warranty guidelines

  • Accurately complete job cards, reports and service documentation

  • Identify additional work required and communicate findings clearly to the Service Advisor / Workshop Controller

  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment

  • Adhere to health & safety regulations at all times

  • Keep technical knowledge up to date through training and manufacturer updates

Skills & Experience Required

  • NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent)

  • Proven experience working as a Vehicle Technician / Mechanic

  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • High attention to detail and quality of workmanship

  • Good time management and ability to meet deadlines

  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable (but not essential)

  • MOT Tester qualification

  • Main dealer or manufacturer-trained background

  • Hybrid / EV training and experience

  • Brand accreditation
