JOB DESCRIPTION

An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced PSV Workshop Controller to join the engineering operation of an established passenger transport business in Merseyside.

This is a hands-on workshop management position, with approximately 80% of your time spent supporting and controlling activity on the workshop floor and around 20% focused on engineering compliance, vehicle inspections, administration and staff management.

You will also provide management cover for the Engineering Manager when required.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Controlling the day-to-day workload of the engineering workshop
• Supporting and supervising PSV Technicians on the workshop floor
• Allocating work and ensuring repairs are completed efficiently
• Monitoring daily vehicle inspection and maintenance compliance
• Ensuring vehicles are maintained to required DVSA and company standards
• Managing workshop staff, productivity and performance
• Supporting fault diagnosis and technical decision-making
• Ensuring maintenance documentation is completed correctly
• Maintaining high standards of Health & Safety and workshop housekeeping
• Providing cover for the Engineering Manager during periods of absence

SHIFT PATTERN

The proposed shift pattern will rotate between:

Early Shift: 05:00 – 14:00
Late Shift: 13:00 – 22:00

Additional overtime is available and paid at time and a half, equivalent to £33.00 per hour.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

To be considered for this position, you should have:

• Previous PSV, bus, coach or heavy commercial vehicle engineering experience
• Experience working as a Workshop Controller, Supervisor, Chargehand or similar
• Strong hands-on mechanical and diagnostic knowledge
• Experience managing or supervising engineering staff
• Good knowledge of vehicle inspections and maintenance compliance
• A strong understanding of DVSA standards
• The ability to plan, prioritise and control workshop workloads
• Good communication and leadership skills

A Level 3 Heavy Vehicle qualification and PCV or HGV driving licence would be advantageous.

This role may also suit an experienced PSV Technician or Chargehand who is already taking responsibility for other technicians and is looking for the next step into workshop management.

PAY AND OVERTIME

Basic Rate: £22.00 per hour
Overtime Rate: £33.00 per hour

Regular overtime opportunities are available, giving you the opportunity to significantly increase overall earnings.
